1958 Mercedes Benz 190 SL (W121)
An Icon. The Mercedes Benz 190 SL is a two-door grand tourer convertible with a removable hardtop, The 190 SL presented itself as an attractive, more affordable alternative to the exclusive legendary race-bred 300SL Roadster with many of its engineering and design cues carried over. It is often assumed that the SL letters stand for Super-Leicht or Sport-Leicht.
The 190 SL debuted at the New York Auto Show in 1954 before going into full production in early 1955. Mercedes paired the car with the SOHC straight 4 engine that produced 1897cc and 105bhp. The engine is coupled to a 4 speed manual gearbox. Mercedes had pieced the 190 SL with their developed suspension technology, double wishbones and coil springs at the front and a coil-sprung swing axle at the rear, giving it the unbeatable ride quality and handling during its time. Built to the highest standard, the 190SL featured a simple yet functional cockpit offering comfort for its passengers and relatively large luggage space for a convertible.
This is a perfect, well documented Mercedes 190 SL with an attractive finish. Both the car’s interior and exterior are in pristine condition, as this 190 SL was out of a world renowned museum based in Cape Town, South Africa, and has had many years of love and care until it finally found its way onto the market.
