“964” is Porsche’s internal code for its next model following the 911. Having about 85% of its parts different, the 964 is considered to be a redesigned successor of the classic 911.

Carrera 2 is lighter than its 4 wheel drive sibling (Carrera 4), allowing it to be more fun to drive, sportier, and some say it is qualified to be called a “true” successor to the classic Carrera 3.2.
